Issue 13 - Is Pin-up Dying?
As seen in Issue 13 of Vintage Boudoir Magazine
Is Pin-up dying? It’s a murmur I have been hearing around the block lately. It seems that as of late everything has quieted down. Our feeds which were once abundant with classic cuties are not as common as they once were. At first I thought that it was just a Facebook trend, which I was channeling a few too many pages gone wrong but as I raised a puzzled hand to see if I had gone mad, others raised the same concerns. I had to sit down and think long and hard about this, skirting around certain theories, blaming the summer for giving me the wrong impression and trying to connect the polka dots (eeeeeh!) together.
In my opinion, the truth lies between fashion and lifestyle. Pin-Up came in at the most wonderful time in our society: the awakening to the fact that beauty is not about size. It’s still a fight that outspoken, beautiful and confident women around the globe tackle every day in 2015 and some of the most influential of them have pinup origins! Think about Ruby Roxx and Tess Munster, Bianca Bombshell and so many others who have appeared on National television and international newspapers to say ENOUGH to the humiliation and pressure mass media and society has imposed on women when it comes to what we should look like.
We also fought to preserve the dignity of our veterans and protected animals from the prejudice of their breed. We helped children, taught history and saved museums. We are a true force to reckon with. To return to my point, pin-up became an unstoppable social movement and as such, caught sail in the mainstream world. Retro was trending, growing and incorporated itself into the fashion of the day…
But as many fashion influences, it appears that it is slowly dying down. Will it die completely? No. We will always crave for beautiful women in lingerie, always be inspired by the life of those who forged our present, always yearn to find the elegance and class of immaculately structures corsets and flouncy nightwear. Those who have truly embraced the lifestyle, the true meaning of pinup will continue to preserve its legacy, letting others walk along and take with them the most wonderful impressions us, the pinups of the 21rst century made onto this world.
This, this is our gift and when the time comes again to shine, we will be there.
